Welcome

Welcome to the Mountain Trails Grooming Association website.  We have finally received enough snow to get the groomer on some trails.  Please be aware every trail has hazards, eg. trees down, water on the trail/road, and/or washout areas.  Ride with caution, be safe and turn around if you are not comfortable with the trail. We are working as fast as possible with our small crew to clear the trails. If you carry a saw, feel free to help cut trees. The grooming schedule is evolving as we can get trails open. You can view the schedule by clicking on the Schedule tab.

12/28 Trail Condition Update

All of our trails were impacted by the winter storms resulting in lots of trees down making many of them impassable.  Water has been freely flowing over the roads and eroding edges of the trails. With current lower temperatures we are seeing less water flow.  Ride with caution and be safe!

Boulder SP - Not groomed. 2 trees down but passable. There is a big tree down at Tiffany. The trail to Baldy Pass is clear.

Cub Creek TH(new) - Trail up the 100 road is clear and ungroomed to Cub Pass.  The trail from Cub Pass to Sweetgrass is groomed.

Eightmile SP -

Eightmile to Sweetgrass – After 2 days of excavator work removing 40 plus trees the trail to Sweetgrass is open and groomed! There has been water over the road and it has narrowed the road in the Ortell area.  Sherwood Forest has 3 trees down and is not groomed

Chewuch Loop – Not groomed. Lots of trees down on the East side, unknown conditions on the West side.

Goat Creek SP – Not groomed. Lots of trees down with large trees down on Goat Wall and one just East of Banker Pass.  A crew will be in on Monday 12/29, to begin removing the downed trees.

Silver Star SP – Not groomed. Currently SR 20 is closed from Early Winters to Silver Star SP. Selland is working on clearing the road.

Twisp River Area – Not groomed. Conditions are unknown at this time for the Twisp River and Poorman Creek areas.

Yellow Jacket SP – Not groomed.  Good snow depth has been reported along with lots of trees down in the trail. There has been lots of water also reported on the trail.

Harts Pass – Reports of slides and a washout on the lower portion of the trail.  No new update on conditions.

12/27 Grooming Update

 Eightmile to Sweetgrass is Open!

We are happy to announce that after 2 days of excavator work, 3 people on saws and 40 plus trees were removed;  Eightmile to Sweetgrass is open and groomed for you to enjoy!  A big thank you to the hard working crew Ed, Dave, Bob and Mitch! The hut is also open to warm up.

Sherwood Forest loop has 3 trees down but is passable with some work.

In general we have lots of trees down on all of the trails.  We just received enough snow to get the groomer out to help with tree removal. We will be working on Goat on Monday.

2/26 Grooming Report

Groomed Hwy 20 today.  There was over a foot of new snow that had been partially packed by snowmobile travel.  The new snow is heavy and wet but the trail groomed out nicely.  Enjoy the pictures below from today's groom.

2/2 Grooming Report

Hwy 20 at Cutthroat
We groomed Hwy 20 late today. There was 5-12" of new snow on the trail.  The temperature was warmer and the snow was wet.  The trail groomed out nicely. It is ready for the cold temperatures that are in the forecast for the next few days and will have a good base for any additional new snow.  It was snowing hard on the return trip from Cutthroat.

1/24 Grooming Report

Groomed out of Boulder Creek SP to Roger Lake Y today. We were able to remove all the moguls. Temps were single digits when we started but ended in the high 30's on our return trip just a couple of hours later.  The bright sunshine is heating things up fast right now.

Okanogan County is grooming the Eastside so it should be great snowmobiling to Tiffany or Conconully.

1/21 Grooming Report

 ***Special note about Hwy 20***

We secured a very limited amount of additional funds to improve conditions on Hwy 20 which we have used for this purpose.

If you are a user of Hwy 20, what you can do to help is:
1. Register your sled(s)
2. Make a Donation directly to MTGA here

The additional grooming has smoothed out the trail, before is on the right of this picture and after is on the left.  The trail is holding up well under current conditions.

Eightmile - Sweetgrass
We groomed from the temporary sno-park for Eightmile to Sweetgrass Butte, over Banker Pass to Goat Creek Sno-park.

1/15 Grooming Report

 Hwy 20

Groomed Hwy 20 today using a Mogul Master.  We were able to get a lot of the moguls out but will be back again on Friday 1/17 to make it even better.  The snow was clumpy and difficult to break up for a really smooth trail but the mogul master did a good job on the moguls.
